تبدو الروحانيات خلال شهر رمضان أيضًا وكأنها تجمعنا معًا في منازلنا لتناول وجبات مطبوخة في المنزل. يشعر البعض منا بارتباط ثقافي أكبر بالإسلام وقد يصوم أو لا يصوم ولكنه لا يزال يرغب في البقاء مع الآخرين خلال تلك الفترة. لا يهم كيف تتجهز ، سواء كنت تصوم او لا، فنحن نرحب بك للاحتفال أثناء كسر الخبز معًا. يبدأ الناس بالافطار في حوالي الساعة 7 مساءً. الجدران مغطاة بزخارف رمضانية من خيام وفوانيس على الموائد. زيت اللوتس يحترق وتشم رائحته في المكان. يتم تشغيل موسيقى العود في الخلفية. المائدة مليئة بأطعمة مثل المحشي بكل انواعه: أوراق العنب ، الكوسة ، الباذنجان ، الفلفل ، والطماطم. مرق البامية؛ معكرونة ,محمر كفتة, معكرونة بشاميل , تمر, زيتون وجبنه؛ مشروبات مثل: الكركديه ، التمر الهندي ، الخروب ، المشمش ، والحلويات مثل الفواكه ، وحلويات الأميش محلية الصنع (يجب أن تكون بنفس الطعم كما في بنسلفانيا) … هذه مجرد ليلة واحدة من الإفطار. المساء مليء بالحيوية حيث يتحدث الناس. أشخاص جدد يشكلون روابط جديدة وصداقات مع بعضهم البعض. يركض الأطفال بحثًا عن القطة. بالطبع ، هناك طعام مطبوخ أكثر مما يمكن تناوله ، لذلك يتم دعوة الضيوف لأخذ الطعام إلى المنزل.

رمضان له طريقة في لمس مشاعر الناس ، بغض النظر عما إذا كانوا يصومون أو ارتباطهم بالإسلام. إنها طريقة للاحتفاظ ببعض التقاليد المتوارثة عبر الأجيال ، أثناء إنشاء تقاليدنا الخاصة

There is a festive spirit during the month of Ramadan in Egypt. While it is a time for reflection and prayer, it is also a time that people gather to break fast together. At sundown, as the call to prayer for Maghrib echoes throughout the city, the streets are empty as people are breaking their fast with a date or in the mosques ready to pray. As you move through the empty streets with the Ramadan khayameya decorations and the fawanees (lanterns) hanging all around the streets, you see the ma2eda alrahman, tables in the streets for anyone to be able to break their fast with a meal. It’s a time of giving. It’s a time for fasting. 

Every night you are fiesting with different company – friends, family, neighbors. You don’t see the presence and spirit in the streets in Philadelphia as you do back home, but we work to rebuild the spirit within our homes and with our communities. 

Some people connect with their community through spirtuality in the nighttime prayers of Taraweeh or sitting reading the Quran until Fajr prayer (sunrise), the time they start fasting for the day. Philadelphia has 500,000+ Muslims of all walks of life and has many diverse mosques for folks to commune together in this spiritual way. 

Others, will watch the hundreds of Ramadan tamsaleyat (special tv series)… oh Ramiz, khalas kefaya ba2a.

Spirituality during Ramadan also looks like gathering together in our homes over home-cooked meals. Some of us feel a more cultural connection to Islam and may or may not fast and still want to be with others during that time. It doesn’t matter how you practice, whether you fast, you are welcome to celebrate while breaking bread together. People begin trickling in around 7pm. The walls are covered in Ramadan decorations of khayameya and fawanees on the tables. Lotus oil is burning. Oud music is playing in the background. The table is full of foods like stuffed: grape leaves, zucchini, eggplant, pepper, and tomato; okra stew; macarona muhamar; kofta; macaroni bashamel; dates; dips; olives; cheese; and drinks like: hibiscus, tamarind, carobe, apricot, and desserts like fruits, and homemade Amish deserts (must bring in a taste of PA)… this is just one night of iftar (break fast). The evening is vibrant with people chatting. New people forging new connections with each other. Kids running around searching for the cat. Of course, there is more food cooked than could be eaten, so guests are pushed to take food home. 

Ramadan has a way of touching people, regardless if they fast or their connection to Islam. It’s a way to hold on to some traditions passed down through generations, while creating our own.

Have you experienced the feeling of hunger before? The feeling of hunger is great pain, and it is one of the most difficult types of pain that a person goes through, and there are many people who really feel hungry, and that is not because they want to lose weight or maintain their fitness, but they do not have enough money to buy food, that fills her hunger. Yes, there are many people who do not have money to buy food for themselves and their families, and these people suffer a lot of pain, which is the pain of poverty, so we have to feel for them, support them, take care of them, and help them. And since the holy month of Ramadan is at the door, this is why we have to help the poor, because the wisdom behind the month of Ramadan is feeling the pain that the poor go through when they are unable to buy a single meal that fills their hunger and satisfies them. Likewise, the wisdom behind the holy month of Ramadan is patience, as we are patient for periods and hours, for a long time without eating from dawn until sunset, we learn patience and learn how to feel for others. This is the month of Ramadan…the month of goodness…the month of blessing…the month of power…the month of obedience…the month of love…the month of supplication, the month of reading the Qur’an…the month of multiplying glorification…the month of testing the believer and the Muslim, as the believer and the Muslim endures long hours without drinking water or eating. This is the month of goodness, and it is a month that comes once a year to test the Muslim, to test their ability to endure and feel pain.

A month that brings all families together, a month of affection, mercy, kinship, and rapprochement. But how do immigrants live the holy month of Ramadan? out of their country? And how do they perform the month rituals? How do they celebrate this month outside their countries? And away from their family? Yes, there are many immigrants who live outside their countries, and they celebrate the month of Ramadan and wait for this month annually to commemorate and celebrate it. The immigrants perform many rituals that express their love for the holy month of Ramadan. And many of them also gather loved ones and friends to have a good time with delicious Iftar.

There are many mosques that offer a free iftar meal for all fasting people who are expatriates from their countries. Thus, immigrants meet with each other at Iftar, exchanging conversation, acquaintance and affection between them, and this is a feature of the holy month of Ramadan. It is closeness, kinship, affection, exchange of conversation and acquaintance. Also, there are many meals that are provided to the needy who do not have money to buy food, and this is the most important characteristic of the month of Ramadan, which is the feeling of the poor.

س/ متى بدأ الاحتفال بأعياد شم النسيم عند المصريين؟
ج: تعتبر احتفالات أعياد “شم النسيم” من كل عام هى أحد المظاهر المقتبسة منذ أكثر من 5 آلاف سنة من التاريخ الفرعونى وكان يسمى وقتها “شمو”، وبالقبطية كان يسمى “شوم إنسم” فهو مهرجان يقام سنوياً فى فصل الربيع، ويحتفل فيه جميع المصريين بدخول الربيع بزيارة المنتزهات وتلوين البيض وأكل الفسيخ.

س/ ما هو الاعتقاد الدينى عند القدماء المصريين للاحتفال بشم النسيم؟
ج: أن بداية احتفالات القدماء المصريين فى العصور الفرعونية بأعياد الربيع (شمو)، كانت فى عام (2700 ق.م) وبالتحديد إلى أواخر الأسرة الثالثة الفرعونية، حيث إن هذا العيد كان معروفًا فى مدينة هليوبوليس، وهو عيد يرمز عند قدماء المصريين إلى بعث الحياة، وكان المصريون القدماء يعتقدون أن ذلك اليوم هو أول الزمان، أو بدء خلق العالم كما كانوا يتصورون، وقد تم تعديل الإسم لهذا العيد على مر العصور المختلفة وأضيفت إليه كلمة “النسيم” لارتباط هذا الفصل باعتدال الجو، وطيب النسيم، وما يصاحب الاحتفال بذلك العيد من الخروج إلى الحدائق والمتنزهات والاستمتاع بجمال الطبيعة.

س/ كيف كان وضع الاحتفال بشم النسيم بعد دخول المسيحية مصر؟
ج: بعد دخول المسيحية مصر، أصبح العيد مرتبطا مع عيد الربيع المسيحي وهو عيد الفصح، مع مرور الوقت، تحول عيد شمو إلى شكله الحالي وموعده الحالي.

س/ كيف احتفل المصريون بشم النسيم بعد دخول الإسلام؟
ج: بحلول وقت الفتح الإسلامي لمصر كان العيد قد استقر على عيد الفصح يوم الاثنين. لكون التقويم الإسلامي تقويما قمريا وبالتالي غير ثابت بالنسبة إلى السنة الشمسية، ظل العيد مرتبط بالمسيحية في موعده. بعدما أصبحت مصر عربية تحول مصطلح شمو إلى شم النسيم، وهو الاسم الذي إلى حد ما يمثل بدقة الطريقة التي يحتفل بها المصريون في العيد.

ولكن السؤال هنا كيف يكون رمضان في الغربة وما هي طقوس هذا الشهر الفضيل في الغربة، هل لها نفس الطقوس ام لا؟

من وجهة نظري هو ان شهر رمضان لهة نفس الروحية في الغربة، حيث يفرح المغتربين بقدوم هذا الشهر الفضيل، ويتمنون قدومه من السنة الى السنة لانه يمثل جزء جميل من ذكرياتهم الجميلةعن جمعتهم مع الاهل والاصدقاء ولكن يمكن القول ان شهر رمضان مختلف في الغربة قليلا حيث يتوجب عليك الصيام لساعات اطول وكذلك عليك العمل بشكل اكبر وهذا لان ساعات العمل تكون لمدة اطول، وكذلك فان لقاءات الاهل والاصدقاء تكون اقل نوعا ما، حيث ان الجميعى يعملون او يدرسون ولا يوجد الكثير من الوقت لقضاءه مع الاصدقاء لكن من جمال شهر رمضان اننا في كل هذا الزخم نحاول ايجاد الوقت لقضاء وقت الافطار مع الاصدقاء ونحاول ان نجد الوقت للجلوس معا ومشاهدة البرامج الجميلة، هناك اختلاف بالتأكيد ولكن الاهم اننا نحاول ايجاد الوقت للتقليل من هذا الاختلاف، كذلك فان من جماليات الشهر الفضيل هو قدوم عيد الفطر, مبارك علينا الشهر الفضيل
