.ويقول الفيلسوف الأمريكي العظيم “آلفن توفلر”: على مشارف القرن الحادي والعشرين، القوة تستند الى ثلاث ركائز هي؛ المعرفة، والمال، والسلاح

.المصالح الكبرى غدت من القوة ما يمكنها من صناعة السياسة في العالم أجمع، ونجحت بتهميش الدول القومية بل وحتى الامم المتحدة

.النظام العالمي الجديد جعل “الحرب” استثماراً مربحاً في مؤسسات الصناعة العسكرية وتطوير أسلحة الدمار الشامل…الخ

“السلام” لا يستطيع منع الحرب أو الحد من أثرها أو التقليل من احتمالات حدوثها ما لم يصبح بذاته استثماراً موازياً، أي مصلحة كبرى عالمية. ولكي يُصبح السلام كذلك فإن عليه أن يتحصَّلَ على الركيزة الأساسية من ركائز القوة الثلاث وأعني هنا “المعرفة”. فالمعرفة تساعد على تحقيق مصلحة الأغلبية الصامتة كالمدنيين العُزَّل و الجنود الميدانيين، والذين هم وقود الحرب وضحاياها

وبالنسبة لي ولك ايضاً فإن السلام يبدو، كما كان دائماَ، هدفاً بعيد المنال وخصوصاً عند مواجهة تلك القوى العظمى ومصالحها الكبرى.

إن قوة المعرفة يمكن أن تُمَكِّنَ السلام من المدافعة واكتساب ميزة القدرة على استغلال المناطق الوسطى في صراع القوى المتضادّة لتقليل الخسائر باتجاه اقناع اطراف الصراع بحلول تحقق مصالحهم بخسائر وكلفة أقل للجميع في المحصلة النهائية.

إن مقاربة السلام في العالم أجمع سيكون هدفاً هائلاً ومشروعاً شبه مستحيل. ولكن هنالك طريق يمكننا أن نسلكه في تجزئة ذلك الهدف إلى أجزاء أصغر، أجزاء يمكن تحقيقها في مجتمعاتنا المتفردة الصغيرة. و”الكل يساوي مجموع الأجزاء”. فبتظافر الجهود يمكن أن نرسم اللوحةَ الأكبر للسلام. وقوتنا بكثرتنا، كما يقول المثل!

مشروع “عمود السلام” يمثِّل ما سبق ذكرُه خير تمثيل في كيفية معالجة العديد من قضايا السلام. حيث تم زرع “عمود السلام” في احتفاليات مجتمعية في شتى أنحاء العالم مثل: نُصُبُ تخليد في مدينة هيروشيما اليابانية عام ١٩٥٥، وفي عام ١٩٩٢ في جانزفيل-ويسكاونسون حيث قامت جماعة الكو كوكس كلان بمسيرة عنصرية. وفي الكنيسة المعمدانية في بيرمنكهام-الاباما من أجل حركة الحقوق المدنية. وفي بيتش كريك قرب سنسناتي-اوهايو ضد الكتابات العنصرية المعادية للسامية ضد اليهود. وفي دعوة السلام الفلسطينية الإسرائيلية في تل آبيب. وكلي آملٌ في آن نزرع “عمود السلام” يوم الخامس عشر من شهر مارس والمخصص من قبل الامم المتحدة لمحاربة الاسلاموفوبيا. 

وكذلك اتمنى أن نزرع “عمود السلام” امام كل سوبرماركت، لأنني دفعتُ مؤخراً كلفة تزيد على مرتين ونصف على ما كنتُ ادفعه قبل شهرين لنفس عربة التسوق المنزلي (والتي كنت اتسوقها من “تريدر جوز” كل اسبوعين) والذي افقدني سلام النفس والشعور بالأمان.

ولعل الأهم مطلقاً هو أن نزرع “عمود السلام” في كل رياض الأطفال، لنُعَلِّمَ اطفالنا أن “السلام” هو الطريق الأوحد للحياة. وهو مثلُ الديمقراطية، لا يجوز أن نأخذه كأمرٍ مسلَّمٌ بهِ، بل يجب أن نحميه ونرعاهُ دائماً.

لا يوجد رابح في أي حرب، فكلنا سنعاني الخسران، خسران من نحب؛ آباؤنا، امهاتنا، اخوتنا، اخواتنا واصدقائنا. وسنعاني من اضطراب ما بعد الصدمة (PTSD) والتشريد والشعور بالذنب. وانا اتكلمُ عن تجربة، واعرف ذلك لأنني عراقي وكنت هناك كما كان الجنود الامريكان هناك خلال حربٍ قاسية على الجميع. حربٌ شرّدتني وعائلتي في بلدانٍ شتى حتى انتهى المطافُ بنا الى هنا في اميركا. ولكن انظروا اليوم الينا، نحن هنا معكم مواطنون امريكيون ونعملُ معاً يداً بيد من أجل السلام.

فلنجعل من السلام حركة عالمية فعّالة ومنظمة من أجل مستقبل الإنسانية جمعاء، ولكي نوازن مساعي مؤسسات المصالح العولمية العابرة للجنسيات، والتي لن تستطيع العيش بدوننا عندما نقول كما هو مكتوبٌ على عمود السلام وبكل اللغات

• The famous military theorist Carl von Clausewits said: “War is the continuation of politics by other means.”
• I say: Politics is a conspiracy to ascend to and grab power or a conspiracy to defend it.
• The great American philosopher Alvin Toffler said: At the dawn of the 21st century, power dynamics shifted and became comprised of three anchors; “Knowledge, Wealth and Violence” 
• The trans-national interests became the global policy makers, marginalizing the role of the United Nations.
• The new world order made “WAR” a profitable business venture, like the military industrial complex, mass destruction powers and so on. 
• PEACE can never prevail, and stop or limit wars unless it becomes a business too. 
• The business of peace means acquiring the main anchor of power, which is Knowledge. Knowledge can help realize the interests of the silent majority, like civilians and foot soldiers. 
• For you and me, peace has always seemed like a goal just beyond reach, especially when considering confronting those powerful interests.
• The power of knowledge could enable peace advocates to take advantage of existing common ground in the face of superpower clashes to minimize loss and work toward a win-win outcome
• Tackling peace, all throughout the world as a whole, can be a mammoth of a project. One way we can go about it is breaking it down to small, achievable pieces that exist in our individual communities. Collectively, those pieces will help us compose the global mural of peace, our power is in our numbers!
• The “Peace Pole” process is a great example of addressing a number of achievable pieces such as: 1955 the HIROSHIMA memorial, 1992 Janesville-Wisconsin where KKK rally took place, The Baptist church Birmingham-Alabama for CIVIL RIGHTS, Beach Creek near Cincinnati-Ohio the antisemitic writings against the Jewish people, The Palestinian Israeli CALL FOR PEACE in Tel Aviv. And hopefully we may plant “Peace Pole” on March 15th, “the UN day to combat ISLAMOPHOBIA.
• Also, hopefully we plant peace poles at super markets because I paid 2 and a half times for the same cart (I used to fill at Trader Joe’s every two weeks) more than what I paid three months ago, which made me lose my PEACE of mind.
• We must plant Peace Poles at Kindergartens to teach our children that “Peace” is the only way to live, like Democracy and teach them that it is to be protected and not taken for granted.
• There are no winners in war: We all experience loss, be it our fathers, mothers, sisters, friends. We suffer from PTSD, displacement, and guilt. Trust me, I know. I’m from Iraq, where you have been during a cruel war. A war that dispersed me and my family, moving from one country to another before finally settling here in the US. But look at us today, we are all here; American citizens working hand in hand for peace.

• Let the “Peace Poles” be an active, organized global movement for the future of humanity, to counterbalance the transnational powers, which cannot survive without us when we all say: MAY PEACE PREVAIL ON EARTH.

حضر حوالي 20 شخصًا من مختلف الأعمار والخلفيات العرقية والإثنية المختلفة. تجمع الحضور معًا مستمتعين بالطعام الرائع ، وتم تقديم واعداد الطعام بفعالية ثقافية و فنية مميزة. لم يتعلم المشاركون كيفية صنع كتبهم البسيطة فحسب ، بل استخدموا الصحف لتجميع قصص جديدة. تم تشجيع الأشخاص على مشاركة قصصهم مع شخص لا يعرفونه ، مما أدى إلى إنتاج المزيد من القصص المميزة.

كذلك كنا محظوظين لانضمام المصور كين ماكفارلين ، الذي التقط صورًا عائلية في المساحة الخارجية الجميلة في بناية جيرمان تاون التاريخية.

كانت هذه أول سلسلة من الأحداث التعاونية مع جريدة نورث ويست لوكال , أذ استضافت صحيفة أصدقاء, سلام , ملاذ امن حدثًا فنيا اخرا تضمن تقديم الطعام وعرض عدد من الأفلام القصيرة في شهر تشرين الاول/ أكتوبر 2022 ، جمع الحدث ما يقرب من 40 شخصًا من خلفيات متنوعة معًا لمشاركة الطعام العراقي المعد ببراعة من قبل فضاء علي ومشاهدة عدد من الأفلام القصيرة التي تم انتاجها في فيلادلفيا.  وقبل الوصول إلى الأفلام ، انخرط المشاركون بعمق في محادثات وحوارات مميزة أثناء الاستمتاع بتناول الطعام. تضمنت مجموعة الأفلام سلسلة من الأفلام التي تم انتاجها بواسطة  مجموعة من الأفراد العراقيين المعاد توطينهم في فيلادلفيا وقدامى المحاربين الامريكان الذين ينتمون لمؤسسة فنية تسمى الكتاب المحاربين. تم إنتاج هذه الأفلام بالتعاون مع مؤسسة فيلي كام.

تسمح لنا هذه الأحداث التعاونية بمواصلة بناء الجسور عبر المجتمعات – عرقيًا واثنيا وجغرافيًا. بكل فخر نؤكد وبشدة ان هذه الأحداث ليست سوى البداية والقادم سيكون اكبر

Friends, Peace, and Sanctuary Journal teamed up with the newspaper Northwest Local to host an arts and food event at Germantown Historic in June 2022. The goal was to bring audience from the both newspapers together to make their own simple book and creating whatever story they want using old newspapers to collage. Asmaa Diab catered Syrian food and provided a cooking demonstration on how to make Syrian fetta. Fadaa Ali also cooked Iraqi food for the event. Northwest Local provided food from a local Germantown food establishment, Sister Muhammad. 

About 20 people showed up of different ages and different racial and ethnic backgrounds. People mingled together enjoying the home-cooked food provided, which transformed into art-making. The participants not only learned how to make their simple book, but used the newspapers to collage new stories. People were encouraged to share their stories with someone they didn’t know, which produced even more stories.

We were lucky to be joined by photographer Ken McFarlane, who took family portraits in the beautiful outdoor space of Germantown Historic

This was the first of a series of collaborative events with NW Local. FPS Journal co-hosted a food and film event in October 2022, which brought nearly 40 people of diverse backgrounds together to share Iraqi food from Fadaa Ali and watch short locally-made films. Before getting to the films, participants were deeply engaged in conversation while enjoying the food. The films included a series of films from a collective of Iraqi resettled individuals and former Iraqi veterans called Warrior Writers. These films were produced with PhillyCam. It also included films on October 21 ,2022.

These collaborative events allow us to continue to build bridges across communities – ethnically, racially, and geographically. These events are only the beginning.

حقق أول يوم للجالية العربية في فيلادلفيا نجاحًا هائلاً.  من خلال العمل مع شركاء المجتمع مثل مقاطعة فيلادلفيا التعليمية ومكتب شؤون المهاجرين وإدارة الصحة العامة و دائرة العمل، تمكنا من جذب ما قد يكون أكبر تجمع للعرب في فيلادلفيا على الإطلاق.  انجذب المجتمع إلى الحدث على الواجهة البحرية من خلال الوعد بالموسيقى الحية والفن للشباب والكبار والطعام.  انتهز البستان الفرصة للتحدث مباشرة إلى الجالية العربية في فيلادلفيا حول الانتخابات المقبلة، وتسجيل الناخبين، والتطعيمات وشجعوا الحاضرين على التسجيل للتصويت أو الحصول على التطعيم على الفور

تم حضور العديد من المنظمات والشركات في هذا الحدث مثل مركز بنسلفانيا لتبادل الرعاية الصحية، ومكتبة فيلادلفيا المجانية، و منظمة سيماك.  جاء موظفون من أعضاء مجلس مدينة فيلادلفيا للتواصل مع المجتمع وقد أعجبوا بالحشد.  وأعربوا عن استغرابهم من نجاح الحدث وعن أسف أعضاء المجلس الذين لم يتمكنوا من الحضور ولكنهم سيتواصلون مع الجالية العربية في الأحداث المستقبلية.  كما أعرب العديد من الأشخاص الآخرين عن اهتمامهم بالحضور لكنهم لم يتمكنوا من الحضور في اليوم الرابع والعشرين

استمتع الأطفال طوال فترة ما بعد الظهيرة باللعب على الزحليقة العملاقة القابلة للنفخ ومضمار العوائق بينما كان آخرون يلعبون كرة القدم في مكان قريب في الملعب.  في هذه الأثناء، انتهز الآباء الفرصة للنزهة تحت ظلال الأشجار والمقاعد القريبة والدردشة مع الأصدقاء والعائلة، وتدخين الشيشة، والاستمتاع بهذه اللحظة الجميلة النادرة في الهواء الطلق مع المجتمع.  استقطبت أنشطة صناعة الفن العربي التي قادها البستان ودائرة الطبول وأداء الإيقاع لاحقًا لحافظ قطين حشدًا كبيرًا من الجماهير

وزعت البستان أكثر من 500 سندويش فلافل من بقالة الأمانة، وهو متجر عربي صغير يقع في موقع أكبر مسجد عربي في المدينة،  جمعية الأقصى.  وبشكل غير متوقع تبرعت بقالة السلام بأكثر من 250 سندويتش فلافل وشاورما إضافية.  رأت شاحنات الآيس كريم سوفتي الحشد وأقيمت في ساحة انتظار السيارات لتقديم   الآيس كريم الرائع بعد الظهر

طوال الحدث وبعده وعلى الإنترنت أمطرنا العديد من أعضاء المجتمع بالثناء وتوافدوا على صفحاتنا على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي.  و غطت وسائل الإعلام الأخرى القصة مقدمًا بينما حقق وصولنا عبر صفحة عرب  فيلادلفيا  نجاحًا كبيرًا

كان يوما الجالية العربية الأضخم ضمن سلسلة من الحفلات المجتمعية التي نظمها البستان و عرب فيلادلفيا هذا العام من رمضان إلى نوفمبر.  ستقام أحداث إضافية في مركز لون كرست الترفيهي في 28 أغسطس ، ودرو ولسن في 30 أغسطس،  في 25 سبتمبر في ملعب تاركن

كانت هذه الأحداث التي تركز على المجتمع وسيلة رائعة للاتصال بالمجتمع مع توفير معلومات حول الوظائف والمكاتب الحكومية مع تطعيم المجتمع أيضًا والتأكد من تسجيل كل ناخب مؤهل في الانتخابات القادمة.  الانتخابات القادمة مهمة جدا لفيلادلفيا.  لسوء الحظ، لا يصوت الكثيرون في الانتخابات البلدية التي تحدد من سيكون المدعي العام والقضاة والعديد من المسؤولين المحليين المنتخبين الآخرين الذين يؤثرون على حياتنا كل يوم.  عندما نجتمع معًا كمجتمع، فإننا نضخم أصواتنا.  أولئك الذين يمارسون السلطة السياسية والآخرون يلاحظون ذلك ونحن أقوى عندما نساعد بعضنا البعض.  قد لا يكون لفيلادلفيا أكبر جالية عربية في الولايات المتحدة، لكنها مجتمع يتمتع بالقلب وإمكانات كبيرة.  ستكون هناك العديد من الفرص للتواصل كمجتمع في الأيام القادمة.  تأكد من تطعيمك أنت وأطفالك وأنك ستصوت في انتخابات نوفمبر

“Philadelphia is lovely at the moment.” “I wish we had such events when I was a kid.” “This is the first time I feel like I am home.” All of these phrases were overheard at the very first Arab Community Day held on July 24th at Penn Treaty Park. The event, which brought over one thousand members of the community to this park along the Delaware River, was organized by the arts and culture non-profit Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture and the Facebook page and Arab community organizer Mohammad Abuhillo. This was only the first of what will be an annual event held in Philadelphia to celebrate Arab music, food, culture, and community

The first-ever Philadelphia Arab Community Day was a tremendous success. Working with community partners such as the School District of Philadelphia, the Office of Immigrant Affairs, the Department of Public Health, and the Department of Labor we were able to attract what may have been the largest gathering of Arabs in Philadelphia ever. The community was drawn to the event on the waterfront by the promise of live music, art for youth and adults, and food. Al-Bustan took the opportunity to speak directly to the Arab community of Philadelphia about the upcoming election, voter registration, and vaccinations. Interns distributed information about Al-Bustan and encouraged those attending to register to vote or get vaccinated on the spot.

Several organizations and companies tabled at the event such as the Pennsylvania healthcare exchange Pennie, the Free Library of Philadelphia, and SEAMAAC. Staff from members of Philadelphia City Council came to connect to the community and were impressed by the crowd. They expressed both astonishment at the success of the event and the regrets of the council members who could not attend on the 24th but would connect with the Arab community at future events. Many others had also expressed interest in attending but were unable to come on the 24th. 

All afternoon children enjoyed playing on the giant inflatable slide and obstacle course while others played soccer nearby in the field. Meanwhile, parents took the opportunity to picnic under the shade of trees and nearby benches chatting with friends and family, smoking hookah, and enjoying this rare beautiful moment outdoors with the community. The Arab art-making activities led by Al-Bustan and the drum circle and later percussion performance by Hafez Kotain drew a significant crowd.

More than 500 falafel sandwiches were distributed by Al-Bustan from Al-Amana Grocery, a small Arab-owned store housed at the location of the largest Arab masjid in the city, Al-Aqsa. Unexpectedly, Al-Salam Grocery donated more than 250 additional falafel and shawarma sandwiches. Mr. Softy ice cream trucks saw the crowd and set up in the parking lot providing a cool afternoon treat.  

Throughout, after the event, and online many members of the community showered us with praises and flocked to our social media pages. WHYY and other media outlets covered the story in advance while our reach through the Philadelphia Arabs page and the hashtag PhlArabDay was a great success. 

Arab Community Day was the largest of a series of community block parties organized by Al-Bustan and Philadelphia Arabs this year from Ramadan to November. Additional events will take place at Lawncrest Recreation Center on August 28th, Woodrow Wilson on August 30th, and Tarken Playground on September 25th.

These community-focused events have been a great way to connect to the community while providing information about jobs and government offices while also vaccinating the community and making sure every eligible voter is registered for the upcoming election. The upcoming election is so important to Philadelphia. Unfortunately many don’t vote in municipal elections which determine who our District Attorney and Judges will be and many other local elected officials who impact our lives every day. When we come together as a community we amplify our voices. Those who wield political power and others take notice and we are stronger when we help one another. Philadelphia may not have the largest Arab community in the United States but it is a community with heart and great potential. There will be many opportunities to connect as a community in days to come. Make sure you and your children are vaccinated and that you vote in the November election.

المضيف يمثل أول تفاعل بين الإنسان الرافديني والخامة المتوفرة في بيئته آنذاك، التفاعل الذي أنتج قصبة الكتابة على الطين ولاحقا العقال غطاء الرأس الذي يصنع من القصب وهو الاعلى شأنا فهو لباس الملوك والأمراء حاليا. وكيف أن الإنسان مبتكر دوما ومرن في إيجاد العلاقات بين البيئة والخامة. هذا النوع من التفاعل البناء في القرى والمدن الاولى في أرض سومر على ضفاف الاهوار وداخلها وعلى ضفاف الانهار، هذه المدن التي وفرت الأساس للكثير مما نحن فيه الآن، الكتابة والعجلة والقوانين والكثير من الاختراعات التي وجدت هناك في بلاد مابين النهرين، حول وفي ضفاف الاهوار. المضيف ليس بناء شاهقا باستخدام خامات طبيعية بسيطة، متوفرة فحسب بل إنه منظومة علاقات اجتماعية وثقافية متكاملة، تعود أقدم الألواح الطينية التي تجسد المضيف الى مايقارب ٥٠٠٠ سنة . المضيف هو بيت الضيوف ومشتق من كلمة ضيف وهو قيمة عليا في حياتنا لما يجب أن يلقاه من الترحيب الحار . المضيف هو عبارة عن مدرسة اجتماعية مهمة يتعلم رواده الكثير من قيم المجتمع وعاداته. المضيف هو محكمة للفصل بين الناس وحل المشاكل بالاحتكام الى اصحاب الخبرة والحكمة. المضيف هو المنتدى الذي يعطي مساحة لأبناء المكان بالتعبير عن آرائهم

 المضيف هو عبارة عن مكان اللقاء في الافراح والاحزان. المضيف هو الملاذ الآمن الذي يجد فيه الشخص صاحب الحاجة ضالته. بيت الضيوف الذي يجد فيه الزائر الترحاب والضيافة وكل ما يحتاج إليه من طعام وشراب ولعدد غير محدود من الأيام كلما طالت كلما كان صاحب المضيف أكثر سعادة. للمضيف قواعد يجب اتباعها اولها ان المصافحة تبدأ من اليمين وهذا من أولويات الحياة الاجتماعية داخل المضيف. أما الدرس المهم الثاني فهو درس تشفير وفك الرسالة وهو يمثل ذكاء كبير من خلال إيصال رسالة كبيرة بدون كلمات، عندما تدخل المضيف ويتم تقديم القهوة لك ترحيب بمقدمك وتكون لك حاجة أو تريد قول شئ معين فما عليك الا ان تضع القهوة جانبا وهذا هو تشفير الرسالة التي سيفهما المضيف وهذه عمليه فك التشفير وهكذا، مااجمله من تفاعل ورسائل ذكية ومؤثرة. وهنا ايضا اود ان اذكر موضوع مهم ، كما أشار الفيلسوف مارشال ماكلوهان، ان الوسيلة هي الرسالة، وهنا افترض ان الوسيلة هي الخامة في ايصال رسالتنا التي نفترض أنها مهمة جدا، انها رسالة القصب وحيث انك بمجرد ان تشاهد المضيف او تدخله ستصلك رسالتنا المتمثلة بالخامة وتأثيرها

The first Mudhif outside Iraq in Philadelphia, the city of love and brotherhood, at Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education. This Mudhif, who was a dream I always had, a dream that represents the glorious Iraq in the most beautiful picture. This dream, which I suppose in the minds of many of the faithful, became a reality. Have you visited Iraq? Unfortunately, no. Do you know Iraq? Yes, and how do I not know Iraq, which is Mesopotamia. Have you met Iraqis and interacted with them; did you meet them in your city? No or not much.

Such questions are always asked with some hypothetical answers. So, let’s build an important historical and cultural material piece that represents Iraq, let’s build our own place that welcomes us all and gives us our space for acquaintance, interaction and building friendships and relationships, an invitation to build our place that will tell you a beautiful story from the stories of Iraq. 

I imagine that the circumstances that surrounded Iraq at least since 1990 until the present day had a great impact on creating a communication gap and affected your knowledge of the nature of Iraq and Iraqis. Today, we lay the foundation stone to bridge this gap as much as we can and build healthy communication relationships and distinguished friendships. The important step in building healthy dialogue and communication using the positive energy of the place, Al mudhif represents the first interaction between Mesopotamian people and the available materials in that environment at the time, the interaction that produced the writing reed on the clay (Cuneiform) and later the king’s headdress which made of reed, which is the highest in status, as it is the dress of kings and princes now. 

How people are always innovative and flexible in finding relationships between the environment and the material. This kind of constructive interaction in the first villages and cities in the land of Sumer on the banks of the marshes and within them and on the banks of the rivers, these cities which provided the basis for much of what we are in now, writing, laws and many of the inventions found there in Mesopotamia, around and on the banks of the marshes. Al Mudhif is not only a high-rise building using simple, available natural materials, but it is an integrated social and cultural relations system.
