العائلة اللزجة (ستيكي فاميلي) هي قصة انبثقت خلال سلسلة من ورش العمل الإبداعية التي أقيمت في كلية سوارثمور في خريف عام 2018 شارك في ادارة ورش العمل كل من يعرب العبيدي وجوش كروبيرا. مجموعة تتكون من 20 مشاركًا يمثلون عددا من أعضاء هيئة التدريس والموظفين في كلية سوارثمور، عدد من الطلاب في دورة دراسات السلام والصراع ذات الصلة التي تدرسها كيتي برايس وبيغي سايدن، والمتعاونون السوريون والعراقيون في مشروع الأصدقاء والسلام والملاذ الامن – سردوا القصص الشخصية وخلقوا شخصيات ديناميكية وجمّعوا معًا أساطير صغيرة نتج عنها قصة العائلة اللزجة. تم تحويل القصص لاحقا الى رسوم متحركة بواسطة الفنان إريك باتل.
بصفتي رسام مستقل، فأنا دائمًا في عملية بحث عن المشاريع التي تغذي فضولي وتمدد نشاطاتي الإبداعية. كان مشروع الاصدقاء، السلام والملاذ الامن الذي نفذته كلية سوارثمور أحد أبرز الأحداث المثيرة والمتميزة والذي جذب انتباهي اليه.
إن دعوتي للمشاركة في مشروع ألاصدقاء، السلام والملاذ الامن والتعاون مع العديد من الفنانين والكتاب وموظفي كلية سوارثمورالمبدعين والملهمين، بالإضافة إلى أعضاء المجتمعين السوري والعراقي في مدينة فيلادلفيا، كان شرفًا لي جعلني ممتنًا إلى الأبد.
أتاح لي مشروع الأصدقاء ,السلام والملاذ الامن الفرصة للتعرف على تجارب المشاركين السوريين والعراقيين الذين قاموا بترجمتها بصريًا، حيث رحبنا ببعضنا البعض لخلق مسارات وذكريات ومجتمع جديد من خلال التعاطف المتبادل ,الفن، الطعام والإبداع. وفي النهاية الحب , كل هذه النعم واكثر مجتمعة.

إيريك باتل هو رسام ومنسق ومدير فني، وقد شملت حياته المهنية مجموعة كبيرة من الكتب والروايات المصورة ،كتب الرسوم المتحركة، عدد من تصاميم الأزياء، كتب الأطفال والإعلانات، وقد انجز إيريك العديد من قصص الرموز الشعبية من الرجل العنكبوت الى أكس مان، ومن باتمان الى غودزيلا. ومن بين المتعاونين معه الروائية الأكثر مبيعًا أل أي بانكس ضمن مجموعتها الروائية أساطير صيادة مصاصي الدماء. المؤلف نيدي اوكورافور الحائز على جائزة الخيال العالمية، منتج المشائون الميتون غيل آن هيرد من أي أم سي و جورج ار مارتن مؤلف لعبة العروش

Sticky Family is a story that emerged from a series of creative workshops that took place at Swarthmore College in Fall 2018 and were co-facilitated by josh graupera and Yaroub Al-Obaidi. A group of 20 participants – Swarthmore faculty and staff; students ina related Peace and Conflicy Studies course taught by Katie Price and Peggy Seiden; and Syrian and Iraqi collaborators on the Friends, Peace, and Sanctuary project – told personal stories, created dynamic characters and sticihed together a small mythos that resulted in the Sticky Family narrative. Sticky Family was illustrated by Eric Battle.

As a freelance illustrator, I’m always on the
lookout for projects that feed my curiosity & stretch my creative muscles. Swarthmore College’s Friend, Peace & Sanctuary was easily a highlight & standout in that category.
Being invited to participate in the Friends, Peace & Sanctuary project and collaborate with so many highly creative and inspiring artists, writers, Swarthmore staff members, as well as members of the Syrian & Iraqi communities, was an honor that I’ll forever be grateful for.
The Friends, Peace & Sanctuary allowed me the opportunity to learn about and visually translate the experiences of the Syrian & Iraqi participants that lead them to this epoch, as we welcomed one another to create new pathways, memories & community through catharsis, empathy, art, food, and creativity. And ultimately, love.
