تحل علينا في شهر مايو 2022 الذكرى السنوية الثانية لصحيفة الأصدقاء,السلام والملاذ الامن. تأسست الصحيفة كاستمرار لمشروع فنون الكتب في كلية سوارثمور، وقد ازدهرت الصحيفة لتصبح صوتًا للمجتمع الناطق باللغة العربية ويتم توزيعها في جميع أنحاء فيلادلفيا وضواحيها. نمت صحيفة الاصدقاء, السلام والملاذ الامن كثيرًا وأصبحت منظورة من قبل المسؤولين المحليين ووسائل الإعلام وغيرهم باعتبارها صوتًا مجتمعيًا مهمًا. على مدار العامين الماضيين ، نشرنا مقالات من المجتمع مثل تأملات حول العيش في الشتات، والشع، والأحداث المجتمعية ، ووصفات الطعام، والتصوير الفوتوغرافي، وإعلانات الخدمة العامة، والإعلانات، وغير ذلك الكثير. صدر العدد الأول باللغة العربية فقط ومنذ ذلك الحين صدرت جميع الإصدارات اللاحقة باللغتين الإنجليزية والعربية. بدأت كصحيفة من اربعة صفحات وهي الان اثنتي عشرة صفحة صفحة. منذ تأسيسنا، لم يتم التعرف علينا فقط من مقال نشرته مؤسسة دبليو اج واي واي الاعلامية، لقد تطورنا بشكل كبير في أن يكون لنا صوت وحضور لافت
في عام 2021، تلقينا منحة سخية من الصندوق المستقل لوسائل الإعلام العامة لدعم استمرارية طباعة الصحيفة، وتقديم هدايا للمساهمين من الكتاب والموزعين، إلى جانب استضافة وتنظيم عدد من الفعاليات المجتمعية. ستكون فعاليتنا الأولى في 4 يونيو 2022 مع صحيفة محلية أخرى ،تسمى نورث ويست لوكال، نحن متحمسون جدا للتعاون معهم، وهي صحيفة التقينا بها من خلال مجموعة اعلامية انتمينا اليها تسمى نايس اختصارا وتعني تبادا الاخبار والمعلومات بين المجتمعات تدار بواسطة مؤسسة دبليو اج واي وااي، وهي تعاون مع وسائل الإعلام المجتمعية الأخرى التي تعمل على سرد قصص مجتمعاتنا. الهدف من نايس هو تنظيم ودعم وتطوير منشئي محتوى الأخبار والمعلومات الذين يخدمون مجتمعاتهم والذين بدورهم يشاركون المحتوى والمصادر مع مؤسسة دبليو اج واي واي ومع بعضهم البعض. نحن فخورون بأن نكون جزءًا من هذا التعاون، وكذلك تجمع بروك ان فيلي، وهي مبادرة تعاونية بين أكثر من 20 مؤسسة إخبارية محلية لتقديم تقارير متعمقة ودقيقة وموجهة نحو الحلول حول قضايا الفقر والحراك الاقتصادي في فيلادلفيا. بروك ان فيلي هو جهد بقيادة ريسولف فيلي، وهو مركز جديد للمصالح العامة للمدينة، والمجتمع، والمؤسسات الإخبارية المتنوعة لإنتاج تقاريرعن الحلول التعاونية وأنشطة مشاركة المجتمع التي تعالج التحديات الاجتماعية الملحة.

May 2022 is the 2-year anniversary of the Friends, Peace, and Sanctuary Journal. Founded as a continuation of an arts project with Swarthmore College, it has blossomed into a voice for and by the Arabic-speaking community that is distributed across Philadelphia. The FPS Journal has grown a lot and has become recognized by elected officials, media outlets, and others as an important community voice. Over the last two years, we published articles from the community such as reflections on living in the diaspora, poetry, community events, food recipes, photography, public service announcements, advertisements, and so much more. We were instrumental in raising awareness about COVID, Census, and elections. The first issue was only in Arabic and since then all of the subsequent issues have been in English and Arabic. It started as a 4-page newspaper and now it is 12 pages. Since our founding we have not only been recognized in an article by WHYY, we have grown tremendously in having a public face.
In 2021, we received a generous grant from the Independent Public Media Fund to support the continued printing of the newspaper, provide stipends to contributors and distributors, along with hosting community events. Our first event will be on June 4, 2022 with another local newspaper, Northwest Local. We are excited to collaborate with Northwest Local, a place-based newspaper that we met through the WHYY NICE Collaborative. NICE stands for News and Information Community Exchange and is a collaboration of other community-based media outlets that are working to tell the stories of our communities. The goal of N.I.C.E. is to organize, support, and develop grassroots news and information content creators who serve their communities and who, in turn share content, sources, wisdom and audiences with WHYY and each other. We are proud to be part of this collaborative, as well as the Broke In Philly Collaborative. Broke in Philly is a collaborative initiative among more than 20 local news organizations to provide in-depth, nuanced, and solutions-oriented reporting on the issues of poverty and economic mobility in Philadelphia. Broke in Philly is an effort led by Resolve Philly, a new hub for the city’s general interest, community, and ethnic news organizations to produce collaborative solutions reporting and community engagement activities that address urgent social challenges.
By being a part of these networks of media outlets across the city, we are ensuring that issues and concerns, as well as celebrations and culture are heard in the wider city. We are honored to bring the voices of our community to the public and through these media collaborations. We are especially grateful to all of our community members who have contributed their stories to the newspaper in whatever ways they choose.
