في ربيع عام 2020 صدر العدد الاول لصحيفة ( أصدقاء , سلام , ملاذ امن) لتمثل ابناء الجالية من الناطقين باللغة العربية القاطنين في مدينة فيلادلفيا. وعند الرجوع بالذكرى الى تلك الايام فقد كنت من المشاركين الاساسيين في ولادة فكرة الصحيفة مع مجموعة من الاخوة والاخوات المشاركين في مشروع ألاصدقاء , السلام والملاذ الامن في كلية سوارثمور فأصبحت الفكرة واقع عمل واتفقنا على اعطاء الصحيفة هذا الاسم ومن ثم تم اختيار هيئة التحرير للصحيفة , فبدأت جهود جميع المشاركين تثمر وتم اصدار العدد الاول للصحيفة وبعدد محدود من الصفحات وباللغة العربية فقط لتكون صحيفتنا هي الثانية بلغة الضاد في مدينة فيلادلفيا بعد اكثر من 120 عام اذ تعد مدينة فيلادلفيا موطن اول صحيفة باللغة العربية في الولايات المتحدة الامريكية وكانت تسمى جريدة الهدى سنة 1898 والتي اصدرها الرعيل الاول من المهاجرين العرب الذين وطأت اقدامهم ارض هذه المدينة وكان مؤسس الجريدة في حينها هو نعوم مكرزل وكانت الجريدة تمثل تطلعات وافكار المجتمع العربي في تلك الايام بالاضافة الى نقل ونشر اخبار الوطن الام في المهجر
ونتطلع ان تكون صحيفة أصدقاء , سلام , ملاذ امن سائرة على نفس الخطى بالرغم من فارق الزمن والتطور الحاصل في مجالات العلوم الحديثة والتكنولوجيا حيث اصبحت الصحف الورقية تواجه مصاعب في المنافسة مع الصحف الالكترونية ومواقع التواصل الاجتماعي . لكن اصدارات الجريدة خلال سنواتها الثلاث الماضية اكدت على نجاحنا في الاستمرار والمنافسة واعادة الق الصحافة الورقية التي تعد احدى مهمات الصحيفة كون بلداننا الام تكاد لاتخلو من اسواق الكتب وما كانت تسمى بسوق الوراقين والتي اخذت تسميتها من الورق , وهذه النجاحات المتواصلة لصحيفتنا نتيجة لجهود القائمين على اصدارها.
لقد كان القرار الاول باصدار الصحيفة ان تكون اعدادها فصلية اي اربعة اعداد لكل سنة كتجربة اولى .. وبعد العدد الاول للصحيفة اكد معظم المهتمين بقراءة الصحيفة بانها خطوة مهمة وتهتم بالصوت العربي في المدينة وانها في تطور من عدد الى اخر, فقد ازداد عدد صفحاتها ثم اصبحت مواضيعها باللغتين العربية والانكليزية. كذلك فقد تنوعت مواضيعها الثقافية واخذت تغطي معظم النشاطات الجديدة للمجتمع العربي في فيلادلفيا وكذلك فقد تمكنت الصحيفة من نشر مقالات لكتاب من غير ابناء الجالية العربية وهذا يمثل احد اهداف القائمين على اصدار الصحيفة لكي تتعزز روح التعاون والاندماج وبناء الجسور بين الثقافات المختلفة.
واخيرا , املنا ان يتوسع نشاط الصحيفة اكثر في المستقبل القريب وان تكون اسما مميزا بين قريناتها من الصحف التي تصدر في مدينة فيلادلفيا .. وبذلك نفتخر بهذا التميز نحن العاملين في مهنة ( صاحبة الجلالة)

In the spring of 2020, the first issue of the journal (Friends, Peace, Sanctuary) was published to represent the Arabic-speaking community living in Philadelphia. When we recall the memory of those days, I was one of the participants in the birth of the idea of the journal with a group of brothers and sisters participating in the Friends, Peace, and Sanctuary project by Swarthmore College, so the idea became a reality, and we agreed to give the journal this name, and then the editorial board of the newspaper was chosen, So the efforts of all participants began to bear fruit, and the first issue of the journal was issued with a limited number of pages and in Arabic only, so that our journal would be the second in the Arabic language in the city of Philadelphia after more than 120 years, as the city of Philadelphia is the home of the first Arabic language newspaper in the United States of America and it was called Al-Huda Newspaper in 1898 Which was issued by the first generation of Arab immigrants who set foot on the land of this city, and the founder of the newspaper at the time was Naoum Moukarzel.
We look forward to the Friends, Peace, Sanctuary Journal following in the same footsteps despite the difference in time and the development in the fields of modern science and technology, where print paper is facing difficulties in competition with digital newspapers and social media. But the publications of the newspaper during its past three years confirmed our success in continuing, competing, and re-distributing the paper press, which is one of the newspaper’s tasks, since our home countries are almost devoid of book markets, and what was called the paper market, which took its name from the paper, and these continuous successes of our journal are a result of the efforts of those in charge of issuing it.
The first decision to issue the journal was that its issues should be quarterly, i.e., four issues per year, as a first experiment. After the first issue of the journal, most of those interested in reading the journal confirmed that it was an important step and concerned with the Arab voice in the city and that it was developing from one issue to another, as the number of its pages increased and then became its topics are in both Arabic and English. Its cultural topics have also diversified and covered most of the new activities of the Arab community in Philadelphia. The journal was also able to publish articles by non-Arab writers, and this represents one of the goals of those in charge of issuing the journal to enhance the spirit of cooperation, integration, and building bridges between different cultures.
Finally, we hope that the journal activity will expand soon and that it will be a distinguished name among its peers from the newspapers issued in the city of Philadelphia.
